Film Studies Curriculum Overview
“When I looked at life through the camera, I felt like I could finally see it.” – Katherine Howe
Being part of the Academy Transformation Trust family, we ensure our curriculum is ambitious and enjoyable through knowledge and skills developed throughout their time at Bristnall Hall. It is inclusive and knowledge rich and it is broad in terms of coverage and (at least) encompassing the breadth of the 2014 English National Curriculum. We ensure it meets the needs of our students and helps to develop character, personal pride and the highest moral standards.
Film is an important part of many people’s lives. We consider film to be the major art form of the last hundred years and that studying it opens the door to understanding how the media influences the way people think and feel. In our current technological and social landscape, thinking critically about the information we absorb is essential and Film Studies is one opportunity to stay one step ahead of this ever-changing world.
Film Studies at Bristnall Hall Academy guarantees students the opportunity to explore a diverse mix of films in a deep and meaningful way. Learners will see film through the lens of not just a viewer but a director and a screenwriter.
They will:
- Understand the language of film (cinematography, sound, and mise-en-scene)
- Explore the history and development of cinema
- Analyse meanings both intended and unintended created by the choices made by filmmakers
- Critique films as they become experts in the field
- Create and evaluate their own film products.
