Art Curriculum Overview

“An idea is a point of departure.  As soon as you elaborate on it, it becomes transformed by thought.” Pablo Picasso

Being part of the Academy Transformation Trust family, we ensure our curriculum is ambitious and enjoyable through knowledge and skills developed throughout their time at Bristnall Hall. It is inclusive and knowledge rich and it is broad in terms of coverage and (at least) encompassing the breadth of the 2014 English National Curriculum. We ensure it meets the needs of our students and helps to develop character, personal pride and the highest moral standards.

Our Art curriculum aims to engage, inspire and challenge learners, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. As learners progress they are given opportunities to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of Art and Design. They will know how Art and Design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. Learners will have opportunities to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences, become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.  They will evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.  They will be introduced to great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Our curriculum follows the National programmes of study at both KS3 and KS4. As a result, our curriculum intends to:

  • Explore a range of techniques, processes and media.
  • Increase learner’s proficiency in the handling of different materials.
  • Develop learner’s ability to analyse and evaluate their own work, and that of others.
  • Apply an understanding of relevant fine art practices in the creative and cultural industries to their work.
  • Refine their ideas as work progresses through recording, selecting, editing and presenting fine art personal outcome(s)
