Graphics Curriculum Overview

“Design is thinking made visual” – Saul Bass, Designer

Being part of the Academy Transformation Trust family, we ensure our curriculum is ambitious and enjoyable through knowledge and skills developed throughout their time at Bristnall Hall. It is inclusive and knowledge rich and it is broad in terms of coverage and (at least) encompassing the breadth of the 2014 English National Curriculum. We ensure it meets the needs of our students and helps to develop character, personal pride and the highest moral standards.

Graphics is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. It embeds knowledge using creativity and imagination. Students design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge tailored to their needs and draw upon disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Students learn to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through evaluation of past and present design and technology, students develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High quality design and technology makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, equality, wealth and well-being of the nation.

Students will learn to:

  • Use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve relevant problems including those encountered in their everyday lives.
  • Build resilience and confidence to face challenges whilst raising their pride, self-esteem and curiosity developing new personal interests.
  • Be able to work within a range of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
  • Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. • Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
  • Understand the responsibility of designers in producing products that have positive impacts on people’s lives and generating minimal impact on the environment.
  • Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
  • Acquire a breadth of subject knowledge whilst learning how to take risks, and become a resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizen in an increasingly technological world.
