Engineering Curriculum Overview
‘Engineers turn dreams into reality’ – Hayao Miyazaki
‘At its heart, engineering is about using science to find a creative practical solution. It is a noble profession’ – Queen Elizabeth II
Being part of the Academy Transformation Trust family, we ensure our curriculum is ambitious and enjoyable through knowledge and skills developed throughout their time at Bristnall Hall. It is inclusive and knowledge-rich and it is broad in terms of coverage and (at least) encompassing the breadth of the 2014 English National Curriculum. We ensure it meets the needs of our students and helps to develop character, personal pride and the highest moral standards.
In Engineering, we strive to ensure all students enjoy the subject, by embedding knowledge and skills using a continually evolving and comprehensive curriculum. Our students learn to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative and capable citizens. Engineering draws upon disciplines such as Maths, Science, Computing and Art to solve real life problems using creativity and imagination, which prepares our students for their future endeavours.
At Bristnall Hall, in Engineering our curriculum intent is:
- To promote the interest in engineering and its global significance.
- To solve real problems by being creative and imaginative.
- To develop knowledge and experience of a wide range of tools and equipment.
- To explore different materials and their properties.
- To consider the advancement in technology using Smart materials.
- To promote sustainability of natural resources using an ethical approach.
- To gain knowledge of a wide range of design strategies.
- To embed techniques in evaluating existing products through disassembly.
- To ensure all students work in a safe environment with a focus on Health and Safety.
- To design and manufacture three prototype products prior to KS4.
- To ensure accessibility and engagement for all students.
- To promote transferable skills across all subjects.
- To envisage engineering as a career option that has limitless opportunities and disciplines.
