Dexter is a black Labrador who started attending the academy February 2019. Dexter is a playful boy, who lives with a member of staff, her family and their two cats. Dexter loves going for walks, playing in stream and having lots of fuss from the students at the academy. Although a little mischievous, Dexter has settled in well and we look forward to sharing in his adventures.

Dexter has completed his Puppy Good Citizenship Training, with a Kennel Club assured provider. Dexter will now be going on to the GCDS Bronze, Silver and Gold Citizenship qualifications, Companionship Training and finishing with the Pets as Therapy Assessment. As Dexter matures we will be introducing him into the academy curriculum to support our students with their learning. This will include:

Reading – Students to read to Dexter to help build their confidence in reading. Responsibility and Life Skills – Students responsible for walking and feeding Dexter to learn the importance of taking responsibility for an animal Welfare – Dexter to be involved with students who may require someone to talk to or stroke/play with when feeling overwhelmed Rewards – to be involved in rewarding students, particularly those who have an interest in dogs and would like to be involved in their care. We also run dog walking club at the beginning of the academy day 7:15 – 8:15 am. Any student is welcome to join us and learn more about Dexter as well as keep fit.

The Dexter Blog In July 2020 Dexter had his most challenging walk yet. Dexter and his family walked up Snowdon which is the highest mountain in Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 meters above sea level Snowdon. Dexter completed the steep walk up the PYG trail and reached the summit in just over two hours, after a little break Dexter walked back down along the Mining Trail.
